Dude! by Aaron Reynolds

Aaron Reynolds and Dan Santat are paired together to tell a story in the picture book, Dude! With the use of just one word (dude) combined with the creative use of various spellings of this word and a variety of punctuation this book is brought to life from the readers careful matching tone. In addition, the vibrant illustrations give us the specifics we need to know to fully understand the whole story.

In reading this book, each page is a new beginning and the reader gains the importance of studying the pictures, responding to the font; as well as paying close attention to both the letters and added emotion to the repetitive word, Dude.

In the classroom, I would use this picture book to model reading picture books and what skills we can use to gain further understanding.

I read this book as a part of my #BookaDay Reading Challenge, inspired by Donalyn Miller. My goal is to read at least one children's literature book every weekday and share my thoughts here on my blog. Please feel free to subscribe or connect with me on social media to follow my journey through the books I read. Until next time ...
