Love by Matt de la Pena
Newbery Medal-winning author Matt de la Peña and bestselling illustrator Loren Long create a masterpiece in the picture book, Love. Love is there the moment you open your eyes as a baby and carries you through to the day that you are on your own; when it becomes your guide and foundation in which you can build your life on. Loves knows no age, no race, no socio-economic class, no gender. Love is for the young, the old, the morning, the night, in good times, and in bad times, in the city, or in the country ... the message is clear Love is everywhere and for everyone.
Here, LOVE is read by author Matt de la Peña:
My favorite moment in the book is when it discusses the moment you set off on your own path, a new adventure:
"Your loved ones will stand there like puddles beneath their umbrellas, holding you tight and kissing you and wishing you luck" (p. 29).
I think this would be a terrific book to read on the last day of school. A send off to summer vacation and onto new beginnings. A way of saying this safe place has been provided for you over the last school year; take the love you and need to carry on into your next adventure. This would be a great gift at high school and college graduation too!
I read this book as a part of my #BookaDay Reading Challenge, inspired by Donalyn Miller. My goal is to read at least one children's literature book everyday and share my thoughts here on my blog. Please feel free to subscribe or connect with me on social media to follow my journey through the books I read. Until next time ...
