A Giraffe and a Half by Shel Silverstein

I knew I would enjoy the reading of Shel Silverstein's A Giraffe and a Half, with the typical rhythmic verse and classical illustrations that we all know and love! This is a picture book that will cause much laughter for you and your students as you read. I really do not want to say much, as it would take away from the comical story. I will tell you that you must, go to your library, bookstore, or Amazon.com and get this book if you have not read it. Being a huge fan of Where the Sidewalk Ends and A Light in the Attic, I am completely surprised I have not read this picture book until today. If you cannot wait to read it, you can watch this YouTube video:

In the classroom, this book meets a few common core standards for second graders; however, it is an incredible read aloud just for fun in the upper elementary classroom. This book was read in part of my #BookaDay Summer Reading Challenge, you can learn more about this here. Please feel free to subscribe to my blog or follow me on social media to follow my journey through the books I read. Until next time .....
