Teaching English Methods Reflective Journal Entry #6

In the chapter, “Talking, & Writing About Texts”, Beach provides a range of strategies for fostering discussion of literary texts; as well as formal and informal writing activities that will help students engage with the text. Review the chapter and then brainstorm how you might incorporate one discussion strategy and one formal or informal writing activity in your upcoming lesson lesson plan.
  1. Use of small groups/book club discussion
In using literature circles establish five groups of six students each with a role of facilitator, leader, scribe, challenger, connector and summarizer. Having read sections of text and prepare materials for role discussion.
  1. Rewriting/ Remixing Texts (character diary)

A writing activity through reading, diary through the perspective of other characters. As the story is told through Jonas, it would be nice to have thoughts outside of his view.
