Henny, Penny, Lenny, Denny, and Mike by Cynthia Rylant

The picture book: Henny, Penny, Lenny, Denny & Mike by Cynthia Rylant is a cute little story about the life of five fabulous fish friends. I really like how Rylant tells the story in the view of the fish; from the everyday moments of gulping and kissing to those dreaded tank cleaning days. According to the fabulous five, most things are, "So Fab!" until something bad happens to one of the fish.

This character conflict causes the fish to feel not so fab until a solution is created by one of the least expected habitats in the aquarium. This is a gentle reminder that the answer does not always come from those we expect it to come from. Sometimes, those who go unnoticed are willing and able to save the day!

A discussion of friendship and those other people around us could be started with a book like: Henny, Penny, Lenny, Denny & Mike. What other things could we gather from this picture book?

I read this book as a part of my #BookaDay Reading Challenge, inspired by Donalyn Miller. My goal is to read at least one children's literature book everyday and share my thoughts here on my blog. Please feel free to subscribe or connect with me on social media to follow my journey through the books I read. Until next time ...
